after this, as well as winning the grammy for record of the year earlier this month, kings of leon are pretty much undeniably the biggest band in the world.
hyde park is the biggest gig a band can play and tickets for kings of leon's appearance at the venue sold out in not minutes, but literally seconds.
now of course it is wonderful to see a band who play credible music such as the kings on top of the musical hierarchy, however part of me can't shake that nagging feeling of "i knew about them first!!" and that there's no going back now.
don't get me wrong, they're still very much a cool band and are certainly not in the same categories as the distasteful music, see: fall out boy, green day, linkin park, nickelback etc. etc.
but they will never be that cool indie band you can go see at a club show anymore, simply because their music is so, albeit rightfully, popular.
the kings are no longer a underground band who you can claim to be your own, relate to the lyrics that were seemingly written about your very own life, or gain instant indie cred for having all their albums on you iPod.
no, they are now the worlds biggest band, and though it's better them then any of the other absolutely shit bands there are out there, save a precious few, it still hurts a little (or a lot) to see the kings climbing out of all our "since aha shake heartbreak" fan's pockets and into the mainstream attention of the world.
ah well, growing pains i guess.
